Roskilde's humanitarian focus 2008
nieuws In 2008 Roskilde's humanitarian focus is on electronics and the demand on fair circumstances when large companies deal with minerals. Consumers have easy access to fair trade products – but this does not include larger product lines such as electronics.

Roskilde Festival and DanChurchAid are behind the campaign "Fair Phone - Fair Future" which focuses on large electronics companies' responsibility for a sustainable development in this area. For fair import DR Congo is one of the largest exporting countries of a worldwide consumption of coltan - an indispensible mineral in the production of mobile phones and computers. And yet, the local community is still impoverished.

We want to draw attention to the wealth that is right under the nose of the population in DR Congo - but which they presently do not have any possiblity of making fair profits on. We want to exert pressure for certified fair trade with minerals such as coltan, so that the consumer knows that no one was harmed during the mining - and that a greater part of the money goes to the local community. For many years Roskilde Festival has been conscious of fair trade, and we have made an effort when purchasing - but in 2008 it is time to take it a step further.
